Welcome to My Palace, My dear Foreign Guest
It is my great pleasure to introduce myself. I am MoonPrincess L. Or, you can call me Lady Moon.
My name, MoonPrincess results from Cut Bomboo, the family crest the above nobody owns on earth
and Taketori Monogatari, the oldest story in Japan. And, L means last. I am the last the family crest owns.
As the sightseeing place not so far from Tokyo, Nikko is probably the best known for you.
There is an old saying ‘Never say kekko(=wonderful) without seeing Nikko’.
December 1999, Nikko was inscribed on the World Heritage List of the Convention Concerning
the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage at the World Heritage Committee held in
Marrakech, Morocco.
Futarasan-jinja (Futarasan Shinto Shrine), Toshogu ( Toshogu Shrine) and Rinno-ji (Rinno Buddhist Temple)
harmonize artistically with the environment.
You could meet the creature of many species, the statues of Buddha and the garden lanterns.
I am sure all of them attract you.
Now, do you know the thousand Samurais who guarded the cultural heritage during Tokugawa Shogunate?
They lived in Hachioji, Tokyo located 160km far from Nikko.
Every half year, every fifty Samurais moved to Nikko on feet and undertook the responsibility for guard.
In winter, Nikko is so chilly by the biting wind blowing down Mt. Nantai.
However chilly it was, they never neglected watching Nikko and the cultural heritage all night long
on the fire lookout.
The fire broke out quite often. By two big fires in all, many colleagues died.
I lived in New York for six years. During the period, I met with this tragedy
Many fire fighters in FDNY were in victims. I never forget the fire fighters on that day.
You would have the good time in Nikko and return to your countries with the memories.
Before that, I have a little favor to ask you.
Please stop at their monument on Omote-Sando ( the front entrance path to Toshogu).
Still now, they have been watching like they did during Tokugawa Shogunate.
If you put the Samurais in the memories of Nikko, I will appreciate you.
MoonPrincess L, A last direct descendant of the Samurais.
